“As you create a home, don't get distracted with a lot of things that have no meaning for you or your family. Don't dwell on your failures, but think of your successes. Have joy in your home. Have joy in your children. Have joy in your husband. Be grateful for the journey.” ~ Marjorie Pay Hinckley

Matt-isms

Matt is a funny kid.

He is LITERAL. Witty.  Smart.  Creative.  I could go on and on extolling the virtues of my oldest and sweetest six year old son.

Last week, we went to my Mom's house and hung out with cousins: Jonas, Rowan, Zoe & Sophie.  As often happens, the boys got into stuff they're not supposed to...all those tempting things around Grammy & Papa's house...mud, water, Papa's tools, the garden....

Matt ended up making a bad choice and had to come in for a time-out.  I was sitting next to Jake (my little brother) and talking to Matt about the choices he'd made.  I tried to gently remind him that in just a little over a year, he'd be 8 and then be responsible for all his choices to Heavenly Father.  I also reminded him that this was his chance to "be in charge of himself" and that he had to stop and think about the choices that he made...yada, yada, yada...

It really wasn't that long of a lecture...and I could see Matt was thinking really long and hard about what I'd said....(he's a thinker after all) but then Matt asked a question - that left me speechless for a second.

"So, when I turn eight, does that mean since I have to be accountable to Heavenly Father that I can make up my own consequences?  'Cuz I don't like time outs."

Jake busted up laughing and looked at me.  He was barely able to get a breath he was laughing so hard....and says to me "That kid is SMART.  He's totally thought it out...and it's totally logical.  Why can't he choose his own punishments?"

This got me laughing and I ended up saying something like "Shut up, Jake!  Or I'm telling Jonas and you can deal with this too!"  and then the laughing wouldn't stop...

I love my little thinker.  :)

I'm also going to tattoo that on my arms as we head to Idaho for the next week and a half...as Stann will be working non-stop at the mill before he can join us for a few days on our mini family vacation/trip.
