“As you create a home, don't get distracted with a lot of things that have no meaning for you or your family. Don't dwell on your failures, but think of your successes. Have joy in your home. Have joy in your children. Have joy in your husband. Be grateful for the journey.” ~ Marjorie Pay Hinckley

The ectomy of the tonsils

Today was the day....

We said goodbye to Matt's tonsils!  Bright and early at 5:30 am!  Smiley...ready to go!

Six am...we're in our hospital room for the short-stay unit.  Matt got to keep his jammy bottoms on...and only put the shirt on. :)  Daddy and I stayed by his side.

Matt was given Verset - before they put in the IV.  He got a little goofy...and then a little sleepy.

The tonsils were HUGE according to Dr. Ghaheri, but Matt lost only a little bit of blood and was a stellar patient!  We were so worried he would have a hard time coming out of the anesthesia...but he did pretty good.  Only a little whiney.  And frankly, we've seen worse.

Matt wasn't thrilled with the oxygen canula, but we were able to cut the canula and keep it at the base of his nostrils so he could still get good air.  He wasn't crazy about the IV...but they did a good job bandaging it to keep it out of his way.

We only hit one rough spot.  Matt's oxygen levels were low...around 87-89%...so he needed to have more oxygen.  The respiratory therapist came by for a visit, as well as the charge nurse, and the anesthesiologist.  He's a little crackily...wheezy...but we have an inhaler to help him through it.

He eventually got his oxygen levels up to where they need to be...

with a little TLC from his Daddy (it's not everyday Daddy gets to be with Matty!)....

We were able to get discharged and go home!

I told Matty in all the times I've been to the hospital...NOT ONCE did I get to leave in a wagon!  He felt pretty special!

We stopped at TCBY, got his vanilla yocream and we have now settled in for what is sure to be a long, painful week of recovery.   :)

Hope it's a quick recovery! Definitely better to have it as a kid then as an adult. I like Dr. Ghaheri, he's great!
