“As you create a home, don't get distracted with a lot of things that have no meaning for you or your family. Don't dwell on your failures, but think of your successes. Have joy in your home. Have joy in your children. Have joy in your husband. Be grateful for the journey.” ~ Marjorie Pay Hinckley

Updates & Food Storage....

This is probably going to be a boring post. LOL. Sorry. You're forewarned. No pics, 'cuz I can't find the cord to my camera to download them. I'll work on finding that while the kids are napping....

So, life is almost back to normal.

Almost.

Aside from mild temper tantrums that are two-year old related, not steroid related...Josh is doing amazingly well. He's even off the pain medicine. He took himself off.

After he started spitting out the meds, I decided to see if he reallky needed them, (aka let him go without and see if he came to me wanting to be held or started crying...) and he just kept playing. He did have two nights where we gave him a reduced dose during the middle of the night (his throat was hurting from his mouth breathing...) and he did awesome!

He's now sleeping through the night again...with lighter snores. (Dr. Dew said this is normal...it'll take a month or so for the snoring to go completely away....but still! Light snoring is waaaay better than the lumberjack impressions he was doing!)

So, life is good.

A few new things...we put in a garden.

Can I tell you I feel like I've channeled my grandmother? I go out there and water the garden, keep the kids out...but we're growing a ton of stuff this year, that I'm planning on using to supplement our daily diet...and I'm planning on canning the excess to add to our food storage.

I don't know when it happened, but I just feel so impressed to get our food storage in order, or as much in order as I can. Like, seriously, I feel like I can hear the tick-tock of a clock as time starts running out.... (It also may have something to do with the show The Alaska Experiment: Out of the Wild. I can't not watch. I'm seriously addicted to watching these people battle their way through the wilderness of Alaska, while living off the land. But I digress....)

So, can I tell you it's incredibly tricky to do, on a very, very limited budget??! (I'm probably preaching to the choir...as I'm sure I'm not the only one struggling to do this!)

I'm also getting ready to put in my order to my sweet, kind, wonderful, sister for my berries this year. Can I just plug this absolutely amazing arrangement? Okay....I absolutely LOVE this arrangement.

My babysitting = free berries and Free berries = jams & fruit in our food storage that are more economical and easy on our budget!

Another bonus: these are berries I didn't have to pick. (giggling with glee!)

I keep checking out the Food Storage site too. Check it out at: http://www.myfoodstoragedeals.blogspot.com/

Seriously...this woman has the right idea...and you do it one week at a time. And right now, that's about all we can afford...(some weeks its more like skip one week and make up for it the next....) and she's got amazing recipe's that utilize your food storage. Which is even better! 'Cuz I'm pretty sure everyone's tried their food storage recipes at one time or another and gone...

HUH?! I have to eat that? I guess I'll lose that weight finally....

But seriously, she's soooo good. Go have a read. Most importantly: It's all super-easy stuff to implement, with a little practice. :D

On another note...anyone have a favorite wheat grinder? I need to find one...and I'm not sure if one brand is better than another??? I should probably check consumer reports...but if any of you have a favorite...let me know.

I need to get a hand crank and an electric. I'm on a "healthy" kick of late....and making our own bread is one of those things...lol.

Now I really have become my grandmother!!

Some of my most fondest memories are of my grandma supervising my Aunt Sharon, Laura or Joanne while they made the bread every morning. Yup, every morning, at 6 AM. Even during the summer. Which is why they got up so early to do it...so the house wouldn't get too hot while they baked it. They did this at least once a week. (She supervised, because she had rheumatoid arhtritis....I'm not sure her hands had joints that were hers anymore...)

Stann and I were arguing about it earlier too.

He says it's not cheaper to do it myself.

I say in the long run it is....granted its not "balloon bread" aka the 99 cent bread...but when you compare it to the bread you'd buy at a bakery or the "healthier stuff" which is anywhere from $2.50/loaf to $4.50/loaf....

It is cheaper.

And last update...I promise...

I had a lady (in our neighborhood) ask me how old my little girl was (Josh...it's because his hair was so long). I politely told her he was a boy.

And then I cut his hair this morning.

So, no snickering if you see my baby.

It's a home cut. Usually not the best move. But Cami is working and I wasn't having another mix-up today....plus it's going to be another gorgeous 80 degree day....so I bit the bullet and did it.

It turned out much better than I thought it would!!

I used the clippers, got the high chair out and pinned him down in there....turned on Dora so that his attention would be elsewhere and his movements would be minimal....and all in all....I've done worse.

Just ask my mom.

She has the proof in at least THREE family photos. All you have to do is look at my hair to know I did it myself. And my mom had to fix it.

AND....there are several "Heart Family" barbie dolls that have are currently rotting in a landfill somewhere with haircuts by ME. Sorry dolls!! But rest assured....your service in the years past have provided me with the experience necessary to give my boys the haircuts that won't have them be the laughingstocks of the neighborhood, today.

Now please observe a moment of silence for the dolls' sacrifice in years past.

Happy Tuesday. :P

In regards to wheat grinders I suggest you check with the church cannary. They sell both. I bought one and so did my friend. I think they would know the best brands better than anyone.
Good girl!! Doing what you've been told! You will be blessed!! I'm proud of you.
