“As you create a home, don't get distracted with a lot of things that have no meaning for you or your family. Don't dwell on your failures, but think of your successes. Have joy in your home. Have joy in your children. Have joy in your husband. Be grateful for the journey.” ~ Marjorie Pay Hinckley

Pre-Mother's Day Thoughts

I was just sitting here...thinking about the fact that its almost Mother's Day....and remembering...once upon a time...

I HATED MOTHER'S DAY.

I know...right?!

Not exactly the best thing to think...!  Especially as I look next to these words I type and look at two of the cutest little boys evah! ;)

But I did.

Hate Mother's Day that is.

Hated it with a passion!  I skipped attending church on Mother's Day in 2005 and 2006.  I hated it that much.  Even though the Relief Society was always inclusive - that those who aren't mothers are still mothers still......hurt just a little.

It wasn't until my own mother pointed out (after I'd had gotten Matt and Josh and was bemoaning the fact that I didn't get the opportunity to carry them in pregnancy - though I'd have LOVED TO!) that not many women can say that they were chosen to raise another person's child...and that makes me special in my own way.

I didn't get to carry him.....

Or even this cute little guy.....

But it just doesn't matter.

(I know the pictures are outdated....but these are two of my favorites....and bring a smile to my face when I think about the sweet little boys that call me Mommy.)

I'm just really grateful I get to be called Mommy.

Even as they're screaming it.  Even when I'm going from one doctor's appointment to the next.  Even as I'm wiping tushies on the toilet.  Even....
Well...you get the idea. :)

Elder M. Russell Ballard on mothering:

"There is no one perfect way to be a good mother. Each situation is unique. Each mother has different challenges, different skills and abilities, and certainly different children. The choice is different and unique for each mother and each family. Many are able to be “full-time moms,” at least during the most formative years of their children’s lives, and many others would like to be. Some may have to work part-or full-time; some may work at home; some may divide their lives into periods of home and family and work. What matters is that a mother loves her children deeply and, in keeping with the devotion she has for God and her husband, prioritizes them above all else." “Daughters of God,” Ensign, May 2008, 108–10

President Thomas S. Monson - Prophet said:

" My dear sisters, do not pray for tasks equal to your abilities, but pray for abilities equal to your tasks. Then the performance of your tasks will be no miracle, but you will be the miracle."

You never know what a girl is worth,
You’ll have to wait and see;
But every woman in a noble place,
A girl once used to be.
