“As you create a home, don't get distracted with a lot of things that have no meaning for you or your family. Don't dwell on your failures, but think of your successes. Have joy in your home. Have joy in your children. Have joy in your husband. Be grateful for the journey.” ~ Marjorie Pay Hinckley

Rant #1 of 2010

(DISCLAIMER: This rant is specifically geared to my friends that are active members of the LDS Church....and is just that. A rant.)

How is it possible to be an active member of the church and be a Liberal?!

I'm just wondering...is all....

I don't really mean to instigate anything....(or maybe subconsciously I do....) but the fact of the matter is....HOW?

Maybe I'm missing some key piece of information that others have?

Maybe my thinking is not as "progressive" or I'm missing a few steps in their line of thinking?

Because I'm just not getting it. I don't. Can someone please explain it to me?

Hee, hee - that's funny. Because I was just thinking the same thing in the opposite direction. How is it possible to be an active member of the church and be conservative? Really. I think that all the time. And in some ways I don't know that it can be explained, but is something innate, within us, that just has us lean one way over another.

Because I don't think that I could ever talk anyone into understanding why I lean liberal....but it just is what feels righter to me than the other way around.

Oh, and I am active:) Loved your rant!

I read your blog - and I liked what you had to say, about questioning - because we all have to continue to search and ponder.... I get that.

I just don't understand some of the more "liberal" leans... (not saying it's you I'm talking about...'cuz it wasn't you..)

Like the leaning I'm talking about - voting FOR gay marriage...FOR late term abortion... THAT kind of thinking. THAT'S the stuff I am trying to understand...? Does that make sense?

I'm all for questioning. You're right that it drives us and inspires us to be better...instead of unquestioning and led like lambs...

But I think (my opinion) that liberal thinking tends to focus too much on the gray shades of issues - instead of the black or white....

Just my opinion. :) And I still love you tremendously Jacks..!! Even if you are a liberal... ;) LOL
