“As you create a home, don't get distracted with a lot of things that have no meaning for you or your family. Don't dwell on your failures, but think of your successes. Have joy in your home. Have joy in your children. Have joy in your husband. Be grateful for the journey.” ~ Marjorie Pay Hinckley

Twinges

Rant #453

Every once and awhile I get twinges.

I miss having my own home.

I try not to say anything to Stann...he gets twinges too.

I finally printed out this picture.  I love Craftsman homes...!  My next home...that's what I want...

Nothing fancy.  Nothing too big.  Just a home. :)

I printed this out.  It's in my school folder.  You may laugh...but I will help Stann make this a reality for us again.

Only...the difference in this version (of owning a home again) will be that it will be 100% paid for, so that when we come on hard times again....we're ready.

And I think we learned some pretty good lessons from the hard knocks on our head.  Our situation could happen to anybody, at any time.  (So learn from us...!)

We had good jobs.  We had savings.  We had resources.  We utilized everything - in this yucky economy.  To the point of break.  And we learned some valuable things.  Like....if you're not careful (and I mean frugally, painfully, careful) you'll lose them.  And, yes, they're just things.  But the lessons learned are painful, and at times, hard to take.

So I am keeping this picture with me.  Along with my Dave Ramsey reminder cards....to remind me to be constantly vigilant

And in the next five years, I know we'll have our home.  And I'll have my degree finished.  Stann will have forged a new career out of this to boot!  Our kids will be none the wiser, and hopefully not feeling as though they've missed out...but we'll be better prepared to teach them...and hopefully they won't repeat our mistakes.

But I hope I keep my twinges.  Because they're always a good reminder. :)

I know I totally agree! We are working hard to save money and be more diligent on not spending! I love Dave Ramsey! Kelly and I talked about the home we have... we could have saved a lot of money buying a different home, but we are stuck now.. so we are doing the best we can to get out of it.. your blog made me feel guilty and reminded me of making sure we get prepared! Thanks... I do love feeling guilty, because I know that is the first step to recovery haha!

good blog reminder as we talk about our options of where and when to buy. I really like the picture of the craftsman home you put up, so homey looking. I have always dreamed of owning a cabin, but not the dirty dusty kind, well maybe dusty because I don't dust all the time but you know what I mean :p
